The Genesee Diary

CNLP 821 | Finding Your Voice as a Young Preacher: Tyler Staton on the Gift of Imagination and What Getting Sick Taught Him About Pace

The Carey Nieuwhof Leadership Podcast, 4 August 2026. The book comes up at 1 hr 16 min in.

Carey Nieuwhof calls the Genesee Diaries his favourite Henry Nouwen book and one of his all-time most given-away books. He describes it as Nouwen's 1974 diary, never intended for publication, in which you see the battle for his soul as he moves from being a rising academic priest to the Nouwen readers know. Carey draws a parallel to Tyler Staton's After Amen, also written without intent to publish.
